Mountain Lion Alert: August 27, 2010

Please be aware that there have been numerous sightings of a mountain lion in the Galena Trails area.  It has been seen on the Bitter Brush Trail, on the top of Thomas Creek Trail, around Dry Pond, in the Brown's Creek area, and I saw it up near Relay Ridge on Mt. Rose.  I am assuming that it is the same cat as their range is about 100 sq miles.  This Mountain Lion has done nothing to encroach on trail users.  In every instance, the cat was just moving from one area to the next, and ignoring trail users.  The concern is that Mountain Lions tend to be solitary animals, and it becomes a concern when they hang out in the open.  So, be aware when riding in the area.  I will also give anyone that mentions this notice a free trail bell if you come into the shop and ask for it.  Not only is it a good idea for wild life, but a great idea to announce your location to other trail users.
